Kamalaya is a new wellness sanctuary and holistic spa on the south coast of Koh Samui. Built at the edge of an idyllic lagoon, Kamalaya’s white sand beach, cascading streams and lush tropical gardens provide the perfect setting to reconnect with, rejuvenate and revitalise your spirit. The sanctuary is centered around a cave temple that once served Buddhist monks as a place of meditation and spiritual retreat, and the name itself means ”Lotus Realm”, an enduring image of the growth and enhancemnent of the human spirit.
Upon arrival you will be offered a wellness consultation to create a bespoke program that addresses your individual physical, emotional, and spiritual goals, restoring you to radiant health , sustained creativity, and joyous wellbeing. Kamalaya also hosts retreats that focus on specific health and wellness issues such as weight loss and detox. There is plenty to do at Kamalaya: simply relax in a hammock with a good book and admire the view or, for those in need of a more active break, there are also a host of healthy activties on offer from daily yoga classes and private instruction in Ashtanga, Iyengar, Anusara and Hatha yoga, to Tai Chi and Pilates. Kamalaya’s palm-fringed lagoon with its coral reef provides swimming and snorkeling amidst a wide variety of tropical fish and sea kayaks or Hobie catamarans are available for outings to some of the uninhabited offshore islands. There are also authentic and luxurious treatments and therapies on offer to help you relax, de- stress and rejuvenate or just to feel more happily in tune with yourself .
With magnificent sunset views over the sea and outlying islands, the main restaurant will accommodate a wide variety of dietary requirements with tantalizing salads and raw food preparations, fresh seafood, organic poultry, and The Alchemy Bar offers ambrosial appetizers, cocktails, wines, and elixirs based on ancient Taoist, Thai, and Ayurvedic recipes to nourish body and soul. The chef at Kamalaya is also delighted to prepare special hampers for picnics on uninhabited islands or lunches in the herb garden amongst the passion fruit, tamarind, mango, and papaya trees.
Koh Samui itself provides a wealth of opportunities for recreation and adventure, with jungle covered hills rising to more than 2,000 ft above sea level, 250 kms of coastline, a golf course and yachting facilities; and the central highlands (the remnants of an ancient mountain range submerged by the sea) provide the ideal setting for hiking, mountain biking, and elephant safaris as well as visits to magnificent waterfalls and secluded Buddhist temples. The island also boasts numerous monasteries including the nearby Wat Samret, Samui's oldest temple; The Buddha Footprint Temple; and Wat Kunaraam, famous for its mummified monk. Guided excursions to these and other cultural sites, including nearby fishing villages and local markets can be arranged. Hill trekking, elephant trekking, and diving trips can also be organised for guests in addition to journeys to the spectacular limestone formations, caves, and lagoons of the nearby Khao Sok National Park on the Thai mainland.
Whether meditating next to a waterfall, trekking into the hills, browsing local markets, having a deep tissue massage with aromatic oils, or eating all organic vegetarian food for an energising detox, you will leave Kamalaya feeling refreshed, in balance, and totally rejuvenated.
