Suasi
Island, Lake Titicaca, Peru
According to Inca mythology Manco Capac and Mama Ocllo, children of the Sun, emerged from the depths of Lake Titicaca and gave birth to the Inca Empire, cradle of this civilisation.
Suasi
Island
provides a unique experience of the High Andes. Built of stone, adobe and totora reed, this Casa Andina Private Collection hotel shelters below flower-strewn terraces on a private island on the worlds highest navigable lake. Suasi operates from solar energy, vast Lake Titicaca is observed from every one of 25 rooms (24 + private Andean cottage), and its 106 acres are home to 3 of the 4 South American camelids.
The rooms are comfortable, there is a sauna, fireplaces warm the communal areas, and an Andean Cultural Interpretation Centre opened in 2005, including a small museum and excellent library. The restaurant features a menu, prepared by one of Peru’s best chefs, fusing Andean ingredients with modern cooking techniques.
The Sacred Valley
Just an hour’s drive from Cusco, the Sacred Valley of the Incas or Urubamba Valley, is a setting of picturesque communities, impressive terraces and several important archaeological sites. The valley has been the storehouse for agricultural products for the city of Cusco since Inca times. Its mild weather and particular geography make it ideal for outdoor sports.
